5 Tips to keep you motivated & active during this Quarantine

Hey guys,
I hope you are all good and you are spending your time productively at home.

I’ve been receiving a lot of messages from you guys saying that you are finding it challenging to stay motivated & follow a consistent workout routine during this phase.
Well guess what, I’ve been feeling the same way and that is totally normal.
When we are uncertain & anxious, we find it hard to concentrate & find motivation.

So here are some tips that will help you stay active during this time:

Tip #1: Create a schedule for the week 🗒 🖊
Plan out your week, choose the days you usually used to work out in. Make sure to mark your rest days as well.

Set a Plan

Tip #2: Choose the workouts that you will do
You can either join a live class on social media, video call a friend and workout together, try out that video you have saved.
The internet is flooded with videos & workout routines. Research and check out the ones that suit your level.

Tip #3: Get up and get dressed
Put on your favorite sneakers & prepare the equipment you need.
Do not exercise in your pajamas, putting on your active wear will give you a boost of energy & motivation.

Tip #4:MUSIC 🎶
Blast that music loud and let yourself go! My favorite type of music is Spanish music so I usually choose a playlist on Anghami or Youtube “Top Latin pop music”

unnamed

Tip #5: Don’t forget to stay hydrated.
Water regulates your body temperature and lubricates your joints. It helps transport nutrients throughout the body and gives you the energy you need.

Shrimp Quinoa Salad

Ingredients needed:
1/2 bag frozen shrimp
1/2 cup of white quinoa
1/2 avocado
2 cucumbers
1/4 Green pepper
1/4 red pepper
1/4 Yellow pepper
Green onion
Handful of mixed greens
1/8 cup of sunflower seeds
1/8 cup of pumpkin seeds

Shrimp Marination:
2 Tablespoons Teriyaki Sauce
3 small garnished Garlic cloves
1/2 lemon
Black pepper
1 Tablespoon olive oil
Dash of cumin
Dash of Salt

Start off by marinating the shrimp with the ingredients listed above.
Wait for the pan to be warm, then add the the olive oil. This way you ensure not burning the oil. After adding the oil immediately place the shrimp in the pan. If the shrimp are small they will need around 5 minutes. If you are using medium sized shrimp, it will take around 7-8 minutes. Make sure to keep an eye on the shrimp so you don’t overcook them and they become too hard.

At the same time, cook the quinoa. Add 1/2 cup of white quinoa with 3/4 cup of water in a pot. Once the water is warm it will start to get absorbed by with quinoa. Cook for around 10 min and leave it to rest for a couple of minutes.

Get a big salad bowl, chop all the vegetables into small cubes (peppers, green onions, avocado). Add the mixed greens, sprinkle the seeds, pour the shrimp, place the quinoa and mix all together.

Add the lemon oil dressing (you can use vinaigrette instead) and you’re set for lunch/dinner.

img_7159

NOTE: you can easily use chicken instead of shrimp and use the same marination.
You can add any vegetable of your choice such as tomato, lettuce, mint leaves, parsley, coriander…
For a sweet touch, you can add dried cranberries, mango slices, green apples…

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Et Voila!

Here is it, a delicious, simple, and nutritious salad.

Avocado Shrimp Ceviche

Ingredients Needed:
– 2 bags of medium sized shrimp
– 4 avocados
– 6 cucumbers
– 2 cups of water
– 3 tomatoes
– 3 onions
– 2 lemons
– cilantro
– olive oil
– salt

Start with cooking the shrimp:
1. Cut a tomato into 4 pieces
2. Cut an onion into 4 pieces
3. Place the tomato and the onion in a pot with 2 cups of water
4. Add salt
5. Add a handful of cilantro to the pot
6. Once everything starts to boil, add the shrimp for a few minutes until the shrimp is pink

Once the shrimp is cooked, remove them from the pot and keep 1/2 a cup of the water from the pot aside. Chop the shrimp into 2-3 pieces and place them in a bowl to cool.

Moving on to the next steps, dice 2 onions and place them in a bowl of freshly squeezed lemon juice (2 lemons), some salt, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
Forget about the onions for around 30 min so they can absorb the lemon.

In the meantime, prepare a large bowl: chop the 4 avocados (make sure they are ripe but not too ripe), the 6 cucumbers, and the 2 tomatoes into small cubes.
Add the shrimp to the mixture along with the onions that were soaked in lemon juice and the juice that we had put aside from the pot.

Mix everything together, place it in the fridge for a while et voila!

My #HHU21days Experience

Around 2 months ago, I teamed up with beautiful ladies from Healthy Happy Us to try out their 21 day program.
If you’re already following me on Instagram, then you will remember that I was spamming you with my daily life throughout the challenge: what i was having for breakfast, snacks, lunch, when i was working out, when i was feeling down …
Please note that it is not a DIET! I did the challenge in order to focus more on what I eat, exercise more, and most importantly feel positive and happy because I am doing this for my body and for myself.
My main goals included:
– Feeling stronger and more energetic
– Decreasing my body fat
– Looking leaner
The full program includes, 5 juicing days that are spread throughout the 3 weeks,  weekly supermarket lists, recipes, and workout videos that can be done from the comfort of your home with the use of just dumbbells. It also includes weekly follow up sessions.
PS: You are capable of taking on the challenge with or without the juicing days. It’s up to you!
thumbnail (5)
I wanted to try the full experience, so I did the program that also included the detox juicing days provided by Fitness Bar Lebanon.
To know more details about the program, check out the link HERE.
(you can even book an online appointment with them).
Prior to the program, Rola took my body fat and weight and discussed my eating and exercise habits.
I generally lead a healthy lifestyle, however at the time I hadn’t been working out much and wanted to loose some belly fat.
I actually enjoyed the challenge more than I expected. I was worried about what I was going to eat when I went out especially since I love eating out and trying new restaurants.
Also, in the 3 weeks of the challenge, it is recommended not to consume alcohol, so I decided that I wanted to strictly refrain from having alcohol and that was easy for me.
Here are my favorite parts of the challenge:
– I loved meal prepping, especially since one of my latest obsessions has been cooking and experimenting with different ingredients and recipes.
thumbnail (4)
thumbnail (6)
– The idea of planning my meals ahead of time and knowing what I was going to eat made life so simple.
– Drinking more water:
Although I always remind people to drink water, I’m the type of person that tends to forget to drink water. So, I started making it a habit to never leave the house without a bottle of water and always tried keeping a bottle of water at sight.
– I learned a lot about my body, such as trying to more easily understanding the signals it was giving me.
For example, sometimes my body would be thirsty however it would give me a signal as if I were hungry, I would then sit and think about the last time I drank water in order to analyze if I was actually hungry or just thirsty.
Another example is the idea of snacks. I’ve always had fruits for a snack or a quest bar. I then discovered that 1 fruit is not enough, I would still stay hungry. I never imagined the huge impact a small portion of nuts had along with a fruit. 6 almonds really did make an immense difference.
– My favorite recipes included the chia seed pudding, you can find my recipe here. I also had the chance to attend HHU’s halloween edition – healthy deserts workshop that was super fun. I learned a lot of simple and easy recipes.
thumbnail (9)
thumbnail (10)
I highly recommend this challenge if you are looking to learn about yourself and your body. Get introduced into the healthy living style of life and the idea of cooking and preparing your own meals. The program helps you grow in so many different ways!
On a different note, I just get so frustrated when people say that eating healthy is so boring, difficult to cook, and has weird ingredients. All the recipes that were provided took a maximum of 30 minutes to make, included well known ingredients that we are already familiar, looked pretty and colorful, and most importantly tasted delicious!
thumbnail (11)
Finally, I just wanted to let you guys know that they’ve recently launched a longer program : the #HHUgimmefive which is a 5 weeks program somehow similar to the 21 day challenge. I can’t wait to try it soon and give you my feedback about it.

2017: You were Great !

Hello, so I know I’ve been away for a while but I wanted to start the year by sharing with you the things I’ve learned and the memories that were created in 2017 instead of sharing with you the typical New Year solutions post.

I’m so thankful for the new people I have met in this journey, the experiences I have been exposed to and I can’t wait to share with you more and more fun times!

  1. Let’s start off by mentioning that I graduated from AUB with a bachelor’s of Arts in Media and Communication and a minor in Economics. “Shit got real!”

I have been slowly trying to understand and learn how I am going to build my career. I was exposed to different internships, working freelance and I am constantly on the lookout for opportunities and experiences.

  1. Discovering my passion for Food Styling

I’ve always enjoyed sharing with you pretty pictures of my meals and especially my breakfasts, since it is my favorite meal of the day. As I create more and more pictures, mainly for Instagram, I’ve discovered my passion for food styling: trying out different layouts, combos, and colors that work together in order to deliver the best picture, mood, and story. It is because of this that I decided to enroll in a photography course that starts in February in order to further explore this field.

  1. Love for Cooking

I’ve always loved food! However, I recently enjoy discovering new flavors and trying out recipes even more than before. Learning the techniques and experimenting with food is so much fun especially when the meal turns out perfect, it just gives me so much self-satisfaction. My favorite ingredients include lemon, black pepper, and garlic!

  1. Camping for the first time

I would always look at my friends’ pictures in nature, camping, and say to myself “Wow, that looks amazing”. However, I never had the courage to take the decision and pack my bags to join them. The idea of sleeping in a tent didn’t sound very comfortable. I was worried about where I was going to pii and I simply was over thinking everything until one day I decided that “khalas” it was time to try it!

My first camping experience was with a large group of people, we camped by the sea in Chekka and my favorite part was waking up the next morning to the sound of the waves.

My second camping experience was a month or so afterwards, it was in Baskinta. A totally different setup, in the woods, between the trees. I was so worried about flies and insects so my bags were filled with bug spray and everyone kept making fun of me. Luckily, there were not any flies and insects that night!

  1. Traveling to new places

Last year I had the chance to visit a new country on my list, Romania, during the month of August. We went for 2 weeks and had the privilege to have a local Romanian friend to tour us around. The trip was Amazing!

Remember how I kept bombarding you with beautiful pictures on Instagram?

HLXY6724

IMG_8040
My favorite location in Romania – Vidraru Lake

I then travelled to Dubai for a week in November! Although it was my 3rd time in Dubai, this was one of my favorite trips. I spent the first couple of days alone, meeting Instagram friends and working on some collaborations. My close friend then joined me a few days later, I had organized our entire journey and thankfully everything turned out to our advantage! I was even able to attend the Dubai Fitness Expo and meet so many interesting people.

It was my first solo girl’s trip and it was memorable.

  1. Getting featured in several publications

I feel so honored and happy to see Beirut Fitness growing and reaching more people day by day. I was featured in 3 publications last year: Step FEED, Al Bayan magazine, and as a guest blogger on the beautiful Jetsetter Diaries website.

  1. Becoming a tea lover

I never thought I would say this, but for the past couple of months I’ve been drinking at least one cup of tea daily and it feels great! I am slowly entering “the tea world” and enjoy trying new flavors and combos.

  1. Launching shop Beirut fitness

I took a risk and decided to share my love for fitness with the public. People always ask me where I usually get my leggings from and I always find that question super hard because I never stick to one specific brand of type of leggings. I enjoy experimenting, trying different brands, and simply just buying the legging if the print is cool. So I decided to launch Shop Beirut Fitness, in which I got a small selection of sportswear (handpicked) that reflect my personal style and was selling them through social media and pop-ups.

You can read more about this here!

Selling was not as easy as I thought it would be, however I believe that many things in life are learned through trial and error. I will go back to advertising about Shop Beirut Fitness very soon so stay tuned!

I hope 2018 will be filled with lovely experiences and memories for all of you.

Christine’s Chia Seed Pudding Recipe

FullSizeRender

Break out from the traditional breakfast and try some chia seed pudding; it’s simple and easy to make and it is a great nutritious breakfast option.

Ingredients Used:

(Creates 2 servings)

  • 1 cup of your choice of milk (I use Almond Milk)
  • 1/3 cup of Black Chia Seeds
  • 5 or 2 tsp Honey
  • ¼ tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Cinnamon
  • Raw cacao powder

Toppings Suggestions:

  • Banana
  • Crushed almonds
  • Coconut
  • Strawberry
  • Blueberry
  • Pureed avocado
  • Mango
  • walnuts

Procedure:

  • Mix the milk and the chia seeds together in a bowl
  • Add the honey, the cinnamon, and the vanilla extract and mix everything together
  • Place in the fridge overnight (Some people say that 5-8 hours is enough; I prefer keeping it overnight for better results)
  • The next morning the mixture would have hardened up
  • Add the raw cacao powder and the cinnamon onto the mixture and then pour into x cups in order to add the toppings.

The best part about chia seed pudding is the topping; you can get as creative as possible with the toppings. You can choose two fruits and a nut in order to have a wide variety; you can even keep it simple and only have one fruit; it all depends on the ingredients you have and on your taste.

I’ve tried out half a sliced banana with some crushed almonds and walnuts.

Another good combo is pureed avocado with banana and mango.

And lastly, a classic combination is banana, strawberries and some crushed almonds or coconut.

Don’t be afraid of experimenting, you might be amazed with the variety of different flavors you can create with the toppings.

Finally, Don’t forget to share your pictures with us!

PS: Please not that this recipe is inspired by Healthy Happy Us’s chia seed pudding recipe.

Weekend Stay At Raouche Arjaan by Rotana

There is nothing better than packing your bags, getting a breath of fresh air, and just focusing on yourself for a couple days!

My mom and I started the month on a positive note with a relaxing weekend stay at the Raouche Arjaan Hotel.

Raouche Arjaan is a 4-star hotel located in the heart of Beirut overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean sea and the raouche rocks (also known as the Pigeon Rocks). It is a short distance from Hamra, downtown Beirut, Beirut Souks, as well as the airport.

We were given the suite up on the 10th floor. It had a large space that included a living room, dining table, a small kitchen and a bedroom. The suite included two bathrooms, a guest bathroom near the entrance and a large bathroom inside the room that included both a bath tub and a standing shower.IMG_5181Depending on what you are looking for, you can choose from a wide category of rooms and apartments (You can check all the categories here)

We were welcomed with some refreshing rose water drinks as we checked in on Saturday around noon. The team was so kind to have prepared for us a nice journey to discover the hotel and spend some quality mother-daughter time away from home.

Upon our arrival to our suite we were surprised with the cutest gesture! Two personalized towels were placed on our bed with a letter. The letter explained the activities that were going to take place throughout the weekend.

We started off with a relaxing massage at the spa where we were surprised with some dark chocolate with nuts snack.

Post – Massage happiness!

Breathtaking view of the Raouche Rocks from our suite

We spent our afternoon on the roof enjoying the breathtaking view with some sunset drinks.  We then had a light international dinner under the stars with the October breeze. During dinner, they sent over a special selection of healthy snacks that included quinoa on toast, smoked salmon on toast, labne and more, as an appetizer.

IMG_5070
Enjoying the sunset with some wine and some healthy appetizers (Chef’s choice)

After dinner, it was very nice of them to surprise my mom with a birthday cake; knowing that her birthday was coming soon. (PS: The cake was simply DELICIOUS!)

Quality time with my mommy

One of my favorite things about staying at a hotel is the breakfast buffet! For those of you who still don’t know, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.

We woke up the next morning, had a small photoshoot in our beautiful suite, enjoyed the view from our balcony and although we were soo tempted to order room service, I was super excited about the breakfast buffet downstairs!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The breakfast buffet had a rich variety of items that included the typical continental breakfast, items from the Lebanese breakfast (foul & hummus), a variety of eggs, some pastries, and a selection of fruits.

During breakfast, another letter was sent to us along with some pouched eggs (which are to be ordered a la carte) on whole wheat bread with a side of veggies.

IMG_5140

In house guests as well as the public can enjoy the breakfast buffet everyday starting 6:30 am till 11:00 am for $22/person.

After a few hours we passed by the gym for a bit,

and then enjoyed the rest of the day taking advantage of the sunny weather and tanning by the pool on the roof.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Several cute letters were sent to us throughout the day. Every time I went to a different location of the hotel, I was anxiously waiting to see the next surprise.

Before our checkout, the team had booked us an appointment at the hairdresser to finish our pampering weekend on a good note!

IMG_5285
All the cute letters I received from the Rotana Team throughout the weekend !

Thank you Rotana for the superbe hospitality and for hosting my mom and I. We can’t wait to be back!

Christine’s Granola Recipe

IMG_6381

I used to be the type of person who bought ready made granola from the supermarket. However, they were usually super sweet and/or included some ingredients such as nuts that were not my favorite. I always saw many bloggers making their own homemade granola and so I decided to give it a try since they all claimed it to be super easy.
A month back, I googled “easy granola recipes” and found so many options to follow. After several attempts, I’ve come up with my own combination of ingredients to create what I call “Christine’s granola recipe”.

Ingredients needed:
4 cups of old fashioned oats
1 cup crushed almonds & walnuts
1/2 cup of chia seeds, flax seeds & pumpkin seeds combined
1/2 cup of coconut oil (I use Power Goodness coconut oil)
1/2 cup of honey (I use Atelier Du Miel‘s Montagne honey)
Some Raw cacao powder
Dash of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of Himalayan pink salt

IMG_6379

Procedure:
Preheat the oven to 230 degrees Celsius
Combine the oats, nuts, and seeds in a large bowl
Pour in the coconut oil and the honey
Mix all the ingredients in the bowl
Add the cinnamon, the raw cacao, and the salt and mix again.

Spread the mixture onto a cookie sheet
Place the pan in the oven for around 45 min

FullSizeRender

Keep the oats in the oven until they become a golden color, don’t forget to remove the pan and stir it a few times so that all the oats are exposed to the heat. After 40-45 min have passed, remove the pan and allow the granola the cool down slowly (you might think that they are not crunchy however they will become more crunchy after they cool down). After an hour or so, transfer the granola into an airtight container or zip lock for storage.

Don’t forget to send us/tag us in your pictures after you try the recipe. Trust me once you make your own granola you will never buy ready made granola again !

Enjoy 🙂
